{Rwanda National Police (RNP) recovered 12 stolen cows and returned them to the owner in Nyagatare District. }
The cows were recovered on January 4, in the South Western Ugandan district of Ntungamo in an operation conducted by Rwanda and Uganda Police forces through information sharing.
Police verified that they had been stolen from the farmer’s kraal in the night of January 3.
After learning that they were being tracked by security forces, the thieves allegedly fled and abandoned the cattle in a farm in Kafunjo village, located about 20 kilometres off the Kagitumba Border Post.
On receiving her cows back, the thrilled elderly farmer narrated that she was in total despair until Police rescued her by returning her cattle.
Inspector of Police, Emmanuel Kayigi, the Eastern Province Spokesperson, commended the cooperation between Police forces of the two countries, adding that investigations are ongoing to arrest the suspects who are still at large.
The Executive Secretary of Nyagatare District, Claude Mushabe asked residents to intensify night patrols to arrest those who take advantage of the dark hours to pounce and steal other people’s property.
Towards the end of 2014, Police in the Eastern Province also recovered a total of 59 cows that were allegedly stolen from Gatsibo and Nyagatare Districts.
