{A man identified as Philippe Nsanzuhuhoro, 32, was arrested on December 23 in Gacuriro, Kinyinya sector in Gasabo district for distributing counterfeit franc notes amounting to Rwf17, 000.

The seized notes were in denominations of Rwf2000 and Rwf1000.
Superintendent Modeste Mbabazi, Central region Police Spokesperson, said the suspect was reported by a motorcycle taxi operator who had been given one of the fake notes.
He appealed to the business community and the entire public to always verify currency notes thoroughly before any transaction, to avoid falling prey of such fraudsters and urged residents to act responsibly by reporting such incidents to Police as soon as they are discovered.
The suspect is held at Remera Police Station for further investigations.
He further commended the motorcyclist for reporting the man and urged everyone to follow suit by reporting all illegal activities.
Article 604 of the Rwandan penal code states that using or circulating, counterfeit items misrepresented as money shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of two to five years and a fine of two to ten times the value of the counterfeit money.
