{Newtownabbey has been chosen to host a special event on Holocaust Memorial Day 2015 (January 27) to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp.}
As part of ‘70 candles for 70 years’, organised by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, Rwandan genocide survivor Jean Paul Samputu has been invited to light the candle at Mossley Mill, tell his story and share his message of peace and reconciliation.
Mr Samputu, a successful musician and a cultural ambassador for Rwanda, lost his parents, three brothers and a sister in the 1994 genocide.
He lives out his message of forgiveness by remaining in contact with their killer.
Holocaust Memorial Day remembers the millions of people affected by Nazi persecution in the early 1940s and subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
