Israel-Rwanda: Agree to establish agriculture centre of excellence

{Israel delegation and the Rwanda’s Ministry of agriculture has signed a memorandum of understanding to share technology in horticulture, sharing expertise and establish agriculture centre of excellence.}

The deal is worthy $1 million to train Rwanda agriculturists, establish the centre and transfer technology in agriculture in five years.

Rwanda also has sent 110 people to study modern agriculture in the fields of irrigation, pest control; seed multiplication and modification…the Rwandan team in Israel are acquiring hands on skills on firming.

Director of foreign development agency (Mashav) division in Israel Foreign affairs Ministry, Ilan Fluss told great Lakes Voice that, 110 Rwandans in Israel are at the field 5days a week and one day class for theory.

“Rwanda team is motivated, with inspiration to work hard and we hope they will have impact when they get back to Rwanda,” Fluss said.

Innocent Musabyimana, permanent secretary in the ministry agriculture said MoU with Israel government in agriculture is a mile stone and is aimed at revolutionizing agriculture in Rwanda.

Agriculture contributes 33 percent of Rwanda’s GDP. Also makes up 28% of the export and contributes to 45% to poverty reduction-according to Agriculture statistics.

Leo Vinoverzky, deputy head of mission said Israel government is interested in deepening the relations in all sectors mainly in agriculture. “Israel is working with Rwanda in areas of providing technical assistance, human development and capacity building. We only share our expertise, technology and assist experts who will be in Rwanda for 5-years.”

Israel government is also looking for possible cooperation is entrepreneurship development mainly in giving TVET skills to Rwandans.

Rwanda has allied with Israel to advance United Nations resolutions in Technology in Agriculture and entrepreneurship for development.
