Mfutila appointed Rayon Sports coach

{Andy Magloire Mfutila is the new head coach of Rayon Sports FC after the former Rwandan league champions agreed terms with the tactician on Monday.}

Mfutila has signed an one year contract and will start working with the team this afternoon in preparation for the side’s encounter against SC Kiyovu on Sunday afternoon when the National Football League resumes after a two-week international break.

“I am looking forward to working closely with the players, administration and fans to make sure that Rayon Sports win trophies this season. This is our top priority,” said the optimistic Mfutila.

The former APR tactician, renowned for winning the Rwandan treble including the league, Peace Cup and Cecafa Kagame Cup trophies in the 2007/2008 season, returns to the country in charge of the army side’s biggest arch-rivals.

Mfutila, who has coached a string of giant clubs in his home country, the Democratic Republic of Congo including TP Mazembe, AS Vita, Saint Eloi Lupopo, CS Don Bosco, Athletic Club Sodigraf and AS Bantou, boasts of massive experience that he believes will come in handy in his current role.

Among his key objectives, Mfutila is expected to prepare the Blues for the 2015 Caf Confederation Cup as well as bag the league title and Peace Cup. Rayon Sports are currently second on the table standings with 16 points, one behind table leaders APR.

Rayon Sports were eliminated by AC Leopards from the Democratic Republic of Congo in last year’s CAF Champions League preliminary round on the away goals rule after a goalless draw in Kinshasa and a 2-2 result at the Amahoro stadium.

The Blues were runners-up last season, two points behind record champions APR and fell to them in the quarterfinals of the Cecafa Kagame Cup that was hosted in Kigali in August.

Since the beginning of the 2013/2014 season, Rayon Sports have had three coaches, including Frenchman Didier Gomez da Rosa and the Belgian duo of Luc Eymael and Jean Francois Losciuto.

Losciuto was in charge of the Blues for the Cecafa Kagame Cup before he abandoned the former champions for ASFA Yennenga in Burkina Faso while Eymael was banned by the Rwanda Federation Association (Ferwafa) for fighting during a league game against AS Kigali that ended in a 1-1 draw at Amahoro stadium.

Earlier, Gomez who had ended an eight-year league title drought last year at the Blues’ side, left half away into last season after Rayon Sports failed to pay his wages for three months.
