Yaya Toure slams Morocco for Afcon snub

{Reigning African Player of the Year Yaya Toure has accused Morocco of disrespecting the African people by refusing to stage next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.}

The North African country withdrew its rights to host the continental competing citing fears of the spreading deadly disease Ebola during the tournament.

It was announced on Friday Equatorial Guinea would host next year’s event.

“Morocco’s decision is difficult to understand knowing that they are hosting the Fifa Club World Cup next month,” Toure told France 24.

“The health reason is not valid.”

Caf have banned Morocco from the tournament next year.

Last month Caf wrote to Safa asking them if they can host the tournament but the Nasrec-based organisation turned down that offer.

“Afcon is a biggest tournament in Africa. Morocco ignored the disappointment of African people,” Toure said.

“If the Afcon was to be cancelled, it would be a huge disappointment for us players, for the fans and for the African continent.”

Nigeria, Egypt and Gabon have been mentioned as possible hosts for next year’s edition of the tournament.
