Rwanda slashes Fuel prices

{According to a statement issued late Wednesday in Kigali, the Rwandan ministry of Trade and Industry François Kanimba said that Oil companies in the country have continued to charge high prices despite a slump that has occurred in the world market in the last few months.}

It is said that from now on the average pump prices per little now stand at 960 Rwandan Francs ($1.41) for both petrol, diesel and kerosene., but before the change, pump prices stood at $1.47 the same products.

According to the Rwandan official, this lower world oil market prices since mid-August this year is not reflected on the local market.

“But the oil companies were not too eager to effect any ample reductions and blamed the high transportation and taxation costs for the high prices,” the statement quoted the Rwandan official as saying.

Rwanda is a landlocked country located in the east Africa that is mainly dependent on the Kenyan port of Mombasa and Dar-es Salaam (Tanzania) for its oil and related product imports.

In the meanwhile, the new petrol companies are also having a hard time competing with the old ones who already enjoy a solid market share and have strong working relationships with each other.
