Rwanda will not host Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup

{The Federation of Rwanda Football Associations (FERWFA) has said they cannot host the 2014 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup, according to information published on MTN Football Website.}

Bonnie Mugabe, the Media and Information Officer of the FA told MTNFootball.com on Tuesday morning that they cannot step in to host the event because they recently hosted the Kagame Club Championship.

Last week the Council for East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) announced that Ethiopia had pulled out of hosting the event. “Yes we have heard some people speak about Rwanda stepping in to host the event, but we are not ready to host the Challenge Cup,” added Mugabe.

Kenya are the defending champions of the event after stopping Sudan last year when they hosted. Uganda who have won the regional event a record 13 times will be eager to reclaim the trophy. Last year they lost to Taifa Stars of Tanzania at the quarter final stage.

The other nations expected to participate in the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup include: Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, South Sudan, Sudan, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia and Eritrea.
