A delegation of four officials from the United Nations are in the country for a three-day visit to assess the Rwanda National Police peacekeeping capabilities as the force prepares to deploy more peacekeepers.
The Formed Police Assessment team, yesterday inspected the RNP logistics at the headquarters in Kacyiru including the mechanical status of vehicles set to be deployed in South Sudan and Mali.
A contingent of 140 police officers is set to replace FPU1 in Mali while other 170 officers will be deployed in South Sudan.
The team headed by Marcin Wydra is inspecting the physical and mechanical check up of vehicles and other basic tools used by peacekeepers during and after work on mission, and operational readiness.
Chief Supt. Claude Tembo, the head of the Formed Police Unit (FPU) management unit in RNP said the two contingents were well prepared ahead of the deployment.
“We have trained, prepared and deployed FPU contingents in various peacekeeping missions previously so we have experience to set the required standards,” CSP Tembo said.
The team will on October 28 also visit the Peacekeeping Pre-deployment Training Centre in Gishari, Rwamagana district for personnel and operational assessment.
