Ruhango: Police intercepts more narcotics, arrest suspect

{Police in Ruhango district, yesterday conducted an operation and seized 20 litres of Kanyanga, a banned gin in Rwanda and 10 kilograms of cannabis.}

One person; Claude Sibomana was arrested after police found the illicit drugs in his house in Nyamagana Cell of Ruhango Sector, following a tip off.

The suspect is currently detained at Nyamagana Police station.

Chief Superintendent Hubert Gashagaza, the Southern Province police spokesperson commended the existing partnership with members of the public in crime prevention particularly in fighting against drug-related crimes.

He asked residents to maintain the partnership through community policing to ensure that drug dealing and other criminal acts are collectively fought and prevented.

Gashagaza reminded that drug dealing and consumption in particular is a crime and punishable under the Rwandan laws.

Article 594 of the Rwandan penal code stipulates that, any person who, unlawfully, makes, transforms, imports, or sells narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances within the country, shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of three to five years and a fine of Rwf500, 000 to Rwf5m.
