ICGLR Ministers to meet Over illegal Minerals Exploitation

Ministers in charge of Mines of the 11 members of the International Conference on the Great Lakes region countries will meet in Kinshasa (DR Congo) November 6, 2014 to discuss on the fight against the illegal exploitation of natural resources in the Great Lakes region.

The meeting will follow another one of the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and economic development) that will take place on 3rd-5th November with focus on “Regional Diligence on the exploitation of natural resources in the Great Lakes region.”

The meetings also will reflect on the important issues of the exploitation and marketing of “strategic minerals “such as cassiterite, coltan, wolframite and gold.

Among the participants there will be representatives from Japan, China, India, Dubai, USA, Belgium, France, and Great Britain among others.

Government delegations, international agencies and organizations, the United Nations (including experts who made extensive reports on the looting of minerals from the DRC), international companies who use minerals in their products (Boeing, Nokia, Motorola, Samsung), Congolese and international NGOs and business actors and Congolese mining cooperatives are also expected in the meeting.
