Victoire Ingabire Husband accused of Genocide crimes

{Netherlands has accused of Genocide crimes Lin Muyizere, the husband of Ingabire Victoire Umuhoza.}

Radio France International has on Friday reported that his lawyer said that the possible extradition of his client would be tantamount to a death sentence.

Meanwhile Rwanda has no death penalty in its Penal code.

Dutch Immigration Services and Naturalization Service (IND) wrote last week in a letter to Lin Muyizere that they would revoke his Dutch passport because of his alleged involvement in the genocide against Tutsis and moderate Hutus in Rwanda between April and July 1994.

Without Dutch passport, Mr. Muyizere is likely to be deported to Rwanda, his lawyer Jan. Hofdijk told AFP, accusing the Dutch authorities to use the extradition as a shameful process.

He said the accusations emanate from Kigali are politically motivated.

Muyizere’s wife Ingabire was sentenced on appeal to 15 years in prison for conspiracy against Rwanda authorities by terrorism and war, and minimizing the genocide.

She was arrested in October 2010, a few months after his return from a 16-year exile in the Netherlands.

A spokesman for the IND told AFP that he cannot comment on individual cases.

According to the letter sent by the IND, which AFP has obtained a copy, Mr. Muyizere would, during the genocide, have ordered to go to Kigali and motivate people to go and kill their Tutsi neighbors.

He and other members of his group were armed. He was aware that many bodies of Tutsis were transported out of Kigali by truck, according to the letter.
