{The Commissioner General of Rwanda Correctional Services, Paul Rwarakabije has confirmed to media that there are cases of homosexuality in some Prisons of Rwanda.}
Speaking to Izuba Rirashe’s Olivier Rubibi, the commissioner said “We have cases of homosexuals in Prisons, but we have established tough measures to curb the spread of such behavior in correctional facilities.”
With reference to Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC), the Newspaper reported that the 2010 Survey has shown that 3% of prisoners in Rwanda carry out the Homosexuality.
Presently, there are fewer cases of homosexuality in Rwanda compared to other neighboring countries.
The few cases of the vice in Rwanda have been reported in prisons, Nyamirambo Sector, Biryogo Cell and they especially involve youths.
Moreover, many claim that the emergence of homosexuality in Rwanda is a recent development, which they claim is contrary to Rwandese culture.
