{The Inspector General of Police Emmanuel K. Gasana met over 400 officers attached to the department of Traffic and Road Safety on September 21 and urged them to be result-focused and provide quality services to improve road safety. }
The meeting held at the RNP headquarters in Kacyiru was part of the Police Chief’s ongoing visit to various departments and units of the force.
He noted that the department holds a lot for road users’ safety and challenged them to be exemplary and avoid indulging in things like corruption and any other misconduct that can tarnish their image and the force in general.
IGP Gasana, however, commended them for improved services which contributed to ranking the RNP as the best in Africa trusted by the citizens.
The latest World Economic Forum ranked Rwanda the best in Africa and 21 globally where citizens trust and rely on Police services with 5.8 out of 7 on the Global Competitive Index.
In the domain of security, Rwanda remains the most secure country in Africa with 6.0 and tenth on the global, followed by Mauritius with 5.5, (30th) and The Gambia with 5.3 (38th).
The report also ranked Rwanda first in Africa with the least incidences of crime and violence that impose costs on businesses.
“You played a great role in this success and you should continue forward with commitment and dedication to ensure that challenges that still exist are solved,” IGP Gasana noted.
He also warned of stern measures against any officer who will be caught in graft tendencies including dismissal from force.
