{Celebrating 20 years of liberation, Rwandan President, His Excellency Paul Kagame will be the guest of honor at Rwanda Day 2014, scheduled for September 20 in Atlanta. Hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda, the Rwandan Community in the United States and Operation HOPE, Rwandans and friends of Rwanda will convene in Atlanta to reflect on the two-decade journey from genocide to becoming one of the fastest growing economies in Africa. This sixth edition is built on the success of Rwanda Day celebrations held in Toronto, Boston, Chicago, London and Paris.

“Twenty years since the liberation of Rwanda from the divisive politics that led to the Genocide against the Tutsi, Rwandans come together to celebrate Rwanda’s progress and recommit to working together to build a united and dignified nation for generations,” stated H.E. Ambassador Mukantabana.
Under the theme Agaciro: Our Choice, Rwanda Day will feature appearances by prominent Civil Rights leaders including Ambassador Andrew Young, Dr. Bernice A. King, leading American and Rwandan businesspersons as well as Rwandan artists.
“Operation HOPE is honored to welcome President Kagame to Atlanta,” stated Operation HOPE Founder, Chairman and CEO, John Hope Bryant. “The people of Rwanda have clearly demonstrated that hope can be found in even the direst of circumstances and that political freedom is only a beginning. True independence is achieved when financial independence is realized.”
Featured guests will engage on topics that highlight shared economic opportunities and shared values of Agaciro and equality. The festivities will be concluded by Umuganura, a traditional celebration that will shed light on Rwanda’s achievements and its shared vision for a more cohesive, peaceful and prosperous future.

Twenty years ago, Rwanda was stripped of its humanity and its dignity as one million innocent men; women and children were killed during the Genocide Against the Tutsi. Today, Rwandans have come together to build a nation defined by equality and dignity for every citizen.

To mark Rwanda Day 2014, we are asking Rwandans and Friends of Rwanda to share the choices they are making as they join Rwanda’s journey. This campaign echoes President Kagame’s speech given to mark Kwibuka20. It is centered on the three choices that have formed the foundation of Rwanda’s progress over the past twenty years – Staying Together, Being Accountable and Thinking Big.
