Imbuto Foundation & Embassy of China in Rwanda Renew Partnership Agreement

{{Imbuto Foundation and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Rwanda renewed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly support Rwandan youth to complete their secondary school studies. }}

In 2013, the Embassy supported the Foundation with $32,400 and has continued the support for the same amount for another year.

$32,400 will provide scholarships for the benefit of 108 disadvantaged students in 2015.

The funds will be channeled through the China-Africa People-to-People Friendship Action launched by the People’s Republic of China to promote cooperation and exchanges between non-governmental organizations, women and youth from China and Africa.

The renewed MoU was signed at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China offices in Rwanda by His Excellency Mr. Shen Yongxiang, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China and Mrs. Radegonde Ndejuru, Director General of Imbuto Foundation.

Launched in 2003, Imbuto Foundation’s Scholarship Project provides financial support to youth with high academic potential who fail to pursue secondary school education due to the lack of financial means.

This initiative supports at any one time an average of 1,000 beneficiaries with school fees, health insurance, uniforms and scholastic material.

An estimated 6,200 scholarships have been awarded since the project began in 2003. Sponsors range from banks and private sector companies to individuals, NGOs and now, partner countries.

The project selects within a pool comprised of disadvantaged students enrolled in public schools who obtain average grades of at least 70%, with boys and girls having an equal chance of being selected.

As a side component, annual forums are organized for selected students, to provide them with life skills and instill positive values.

Students and sponsors have the opportunity to interact and get to know each other during these forums.
