{A total of 91 RDF Sportsmen and women are at final touches of their preparations to participate in the 8th Edition of the East Africa Military Games and Cultural Event to be held from 18 to 30th August 2014 in Zanzibar, the United Republic of Tanzania. }
Five RDF teams from Rwanda will be led by Col John Bosco Ngiruwonsanga and will compete in Football, Basketball, Netball, Handball and Cross country disciplines.
“All is set for our teams to participate and win medals”, assured the Director of Sports in the RDF, Maj Simba Kinesha.
In accordance with the calendar of the upcoming EAC Military Games, the opening Football Match will oppose Tanzania to Burundi on 20th August. Rwanda football team will play against Tanzania on 22 August from 15hrs to 17hrs at Amaan Stadium.
According to the EAC Corporate Communication and Public Affairs Department, “The 8th EAC Military Games and Cultural edition, which is running under the theme ‘One People One Destiny through EAC Military Games and Cultural Event 2014′, will have its official opening ceremony on 20 August 2014 and the official closure on 29 August 2014 at the 15,000 capacity Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.”
The EAC Military Games and Cultural Event are geared towards enhancing solidarity and promotion of cooperation through sports and culture among the EAC Partner States’ Armed Forces; undertaking mutual technical assistance towards the development of sports and culture in the Partner States Armed Forces; and contributing to regional effort for peace through sports and culture.
The Republic of Rwanda hosted the fifth edition of EAC Military Games and Cultural Event in 2009.
Rwanda teams will leave Kigali for Zanzibar on 18 August 2014.
