Imbuto Foundation to Carryout Reading Campaign in Rubavu district

{{Imbuto Foundation will carry out the next step of its Reading Day Campaign Wednesday October 2nd at the Rwanda Tourism University College in Rubavu district. }}

This year,Imbuto Foundation is partnering with Rwanda Library Services under the theme ‘Reading Week Festival’.

The Guest of Honor will be the Honorable Dr. Harebamungu Mathias, Minister of State in charge of Primary and Secondary education at MINEDUC.

Additional guests will include UN agencies, notably UNICEF as a donor and partner in this campaign, UNESCO and NGOs such as Save the Children. Participants are comprised of parents, teachers, children and local leaders.

‘Reading Day’ is a social mobilization campaign aiming at cultivating the love of reading among children. It also raises awareness among teachers and parents on how important reading is, and equips them with knowledge and skills on how to cultivate the love of reading and writing in young students.

This year, Imbuto Foundation is targeting 600 primary school children and 300 parents.

So far, Imbuto Foundation has held 8 reading day events and 3 reading competitions. ‘Reading Day’ is conducted in parallel with the national Rwanda Reads! Campaign led by the Ministry of Education, in partnership with local and international organizations, to promote reading and writing for personal learning and enjoyment. It further strives to increase access to reading materials by availing more books through schools, libraries and bookstores.

Specific objectives of the Reading Day Campaign:
 To promote the reading culture amongst primary school children at school and at home
 To raise awareness among educators and parents on the importance of reading and how to help children to develop skills and an interest in reading and writing.

This is achieved through the use of media and promotional channels including partnerships.
