Ninety Police Officers, on September 1, started a one- month basic and advanced criminal investigations training at Police Training School (PTS) Gishali, in Rwamagana District as Rwanda National Police force continues to build a vibrant professional force.
The course meant for Judicial Police Officers is the sixth of its kind.
During the thirty days, the officers will acquire skills in investigation, court procedures, penal code and customer care.
The course is also intended to develop the general understanding of the officers in science inquiry and provide an insight into techniques, skills and limitations of criminal investigation.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Tony Kuramba, the Deputy Commissioner of CID and also the Director of INTERPOL, while officially opening the course told officers that the aim of the training was to equip them with necessary criminal investigation skills but challenged them to maximize the opportunities adding that training is one of the priorities of Rwanda National Police to have a professional force and to provide quality services.
He asked them to always plan, prepare and conduct investigations in an effective, ethical and professional way.
ACP Kuramba also recounted that, equipping police officers with investigative skills is very vital when dealing with new emerging crimes such as cyber crimes, human and drug trafficking and money laundering among others.

He also appealed to the course participants to take the training seriously to ensure they acquire skills and knowledge that would be used to professionally protect and serve Rwandans.
“Take advantage of this course; learn more in order to give more.” ACP Kuramba said.
30 officers are undergoing Advanced Criminal Investigation course while 60 are on basic Criminal Investigation Course.
The training is organized and funded by United Nations Development Programme(UNDP)
