79 Nyabihu genocide victims accorded decent burial

Remains of 79 victims of 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, 72 of who were killed in Bigogwe military camp, ; four in Mukamira while remaining victims were killed in respective sectors of Mulinga, Rambura and Shyira sector, were accorded decent burial yesterday.

Senator Uwimana Consolée who joined residents in the burial of genocide victims requested everyone to fight against genocide ideology with all energies and reveal whereabouts of other genocide victims scattered to be accorded decent burial.

Mujawamariya Charlotte, a Nyabihu resident whose relatives, including a husband and her four children fell victim, expressed relief after giving decent burial to them.

It was highlighted by Musekura Willy whose late father and two brothers were decently buried yesterday said that they would feel much pain as they had no information of where relatives had been buried but expressed relief as they discovered bodies of killed relatives. Willy said that they have discovered the body of their father with the clothes and the rosary he used to carry before he was killed.

The president of Ibuka in Nyabihu district, Juru Anastase said that the fact that some bodies of genocide victims have not yet been found after 22 years is a challenge to unity and reconciliation among Rwandans and called on citizens to reveal where victims’ remains are scattered.
