{An analysis conducted by the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) on the outcomes of the 4th Integrated Household Living Conditions Survey (EICV4) and the (EICV3) indicated that poverty has been reduced by 6.9 % from 2011 to 2014.}
NISR has revealed that from 2011 to 2014 at least 250,000 households left poverty every year which saw 750,000 households leaving poverty within three years.
The analysis was presented by NISR yesterday.
EICV3 carried out between 2010/2011 indicated that the rate of poverty in the country stood at 46% while the EICV4 from 2013/2014 indicates that poverty rate stands at 36.1% among Rwandans.
The Director General of NISR Yusuf Murangwa said that poverty was reduced in general to 17%.
“ Sometimes a rich person becomes poor when he gets sick for long and spends all that he/she had,” he said.
NISR says that the government should implement social protection programs cushioning citizens particularly in cases of sickness, death of relatives, crops failure and drought since they were realized among causes of economic threats.
