600,000 chicks per month hatchery launched in Musanze

A new hatchery, Easy Hatch, that will incubate and hatch 600,000 chicks per month has been launched in Musanze district.

The hatchery belongs to a South African investor, Temba Mashinini, who says that Rwanda has a good investment climate as it delivers fast services to investors unlike elsewhere in Africa where licensing takes ages. “It has been easy to operate in Rwanda. Besides, there is enough market for we can as well supply to neighboring countries like Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo,” said Temba Mashinini.

According to poultry farmers, the new hatchery is a solution since the existing hatchery of Rubirizi was not enough which would prompt them to place orders for chicks in Uganda, Malawi and Netherlands among others.

“We would place orders of chicks from afar which usually transformed into fatigue and gradual deaths. The launch of new hatchery speaks much about the progress made in poultry farming,” Mahirwe Christine.

Jean Claude Izamuhaye, the Division Manager of RAB in northern zone says that the hatchery will help to reduce the quantity of chicken Rwanda imports from abroad saving foreign exchange.

Easy Hatch will expand its activities as time goes by and the business grows.
