Police has impounded 772 rolls of cannabis in the City of Kigali and arrested six people in connection with the illegal act.
Three of the suspects are females, who were arrested during a police targeted operation on March 13 in Kora Cell, Gitega Sector in Nyarugenge District, with 704 rolls of cannabis.
They are detained at Muhima Police Station.
The other trio was arrested in Nyarutarama Cell, Remera Sector in Gasabo District, after an area resident tip-off the police. They are held at Remera Police station.
The tip-off by a resident and the subsequent arrest of the suspects is an indication of the commitment by the community to partner with police to combat drug abuse and prevent crimes in general, police said.
Supt. Albert N. Gakara, the police spokesperson-central, said the public have in the recent past played an important role in the seizure of narcotics and illicit brew and apprehending suspects through providing timely information on the dealers.
Drug abuse is said to be the brain behind other criminal acts like domestic violence, theft, assault, rape and defilement.
Rwanda National Police is currently conducting a nationwide awareness campaign against drugs in secondary schools.
The youth are the most vulnerable group and majority arrested in connection with drug related crimes.
