49 held over defaulting Irish potato dealership directives

Fraudsters were paraded this morning while different senior government officials and Police were visiting Nzove Irish Potato collection center.

Those senior government officials include Local Government Minister, Francis Kaboneka; Trade and Industry Minister, Vincent Munyeshyaka; Agriculture and Animal Resources Minister, Dr. Gerardine Mukeshimana; City of Kigali Vice-mayor in Charge of Economic Development, Parfait Busabizwa and Inspector General of Police, CG Emmanuel K. Gasana.

Officials were discussing with traders on rules governing Irish Potato business.

Speaking to IGIHE, Police Spokesperson, CP Theos Badege said all paraded people were arrested this week in different operations. 28 of them were arrested in Western Province, ten in Northern Province and Eleven in Kigali.

Minister Munyeshyaka said that the government sets measures which are in the interests of people.

“Dealers must work profitably by abiding with rules and regulations that have been set,” he said.

Recently, Irish Potatoes directives defaulters that were caught in Kigali were fined with Rwf500,000 each.

New directives say that only farmers’ cooperatives are allowed to do Irish potato dealership.
