{{Police in Bugesera District has arrested four people, who are said to be behind a number of robbery cases reported in the district in the past few months, especially targeting electronics.}}
The suspects are identified as Omar Munyaneza alias Kazungu 24, Paul Ndutiye, Aman Kabandana and Seleman Bugingo. They are currently detained at Nyamata Police Station.
Kazungu, who was arrested on March 27 in his hideout in the village of Gasenga I in Maranyundo Cell, Nyamata Sector, is said to be the ringleader of the gang. He has been a wanted man in connection a number of robbery cases in Nyamata.
He has since his arrest, been helping police in the investigation that led to the arrest of the trio others and the recovery of some stolen property.
Kazungu, who confessed to the crime, told police that his accomplices have been helping him to get the market of his stolen equipment.
Among the recovered equipment are five television sets, two DVD decks, two home theatres, a bicycle and mattresses.
The District Police Commander, Claude Tembo, said though there could be other people who are part of the gang, the four are the four are the brain behind the whole scenario.
“Investigations are still underway to get to the bottom of it…to arrest others that could be connected to this group and recover the missing property,” Tembo said.
According to Tembo, the property still missing includes fridges, motorcycles and television sets.
He, however, said some robberies were facilitated by careless victims, who left their doors or windows open, even at night.
The Eastern Region police spokesperson, Supt. Benoit Nsengiyumva, said most criminal acts are fuelled by drug consumption. He explained that fighting drug abuse is one of the priorities of the force.
He warned all those involved in any criminal activity noting that measures have been devised to crackdown on such individuals and groups.
