{A 28-year old man from Kigali, Uwimana Africa, yesterday drowned in Lake Kivu as he was swimming along with his friends near Ku Bagore shores.}
The executive secretary of Kamembe district Ntivuguruzwa Gervais says that the dead was from Kicukiro district in Masaka.
“He was going to swim with eight other young men whom they work in the same company, building housing structures of Gihundwe Hospital.He was swimming leaning on a small jerrycan as an air gear which slipped away from him, leaving him unable to balance and swim, drowned and died. His mates tried to rescue him but failed till they called for support. The dead body was found and taken to Gihundwe Hospital,” he said.
He said that they will soon put up signposts on different beaches of Lake Kivu in Kamembe sector restricting people from entering the lake without swimming skills.
Ntivuguruzwa says the signposts will be installed within a week since they have registered many deaths resulting from drowning in the recent past.
