23 district mayors can’t seek reelection

{The National Commission of Elections (NEC) says that there should be no confusion regarding district administrative committees as their terms of service expire, with those that have served for two terms not allowed to post their candidature. }

NEC revealed this in a press briefing last Friday emphasizing that nine district leaders and 14 deputy mayors that have served for two terms are not permitted by the constitution to stand again.

NEC unveiled that outgoing leaders will leave offices when the final list of candidates is released.

Charles Munyaneza, the NEC executive secretary told the media that local leaders’ leadership can’t go beyond two term limits they are granted.

The National Electoral Commission revealed that district advisory and administrative committees will leave duties on 29th January 2016 while district executive secretaries will be leading during the transitional period.

Campaigns will start when outgoing local leaders leave offices.
The submission of forms for candidature has been extended to 20th January 2016.
