210 litres of illicit brew seized

{As part of the ongoing Rwanda National Police intensified operations and awareness against drug abuse, about 210 litres of locally made illicit brew were seized and poured in the districts of Huye, Nyarugenge and Burera on June 24.}

According to Police, illicit drinks were seized after residents in the respective districts called police.

Also seized were 63 rolls of cannabis in Nyagatare District.

Scores of people found either distilling or drinking the illicit brew were also arrested in the separate operation.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Andre Hakizimana, Police spokesperson for the Southern region, said that there is improved and strong involvement of the general public in fighting drug abuse among other crimes, which continues to facilitate police successful operations.

“Fighting drug abuse is one of the priorities of Rwanda National Police because we believe that by combating this vice, we will be preventing other crimes it brings along like assault and domestic conflicts,” he said.

“The public have played a significant role in this case and no doubt, this partnership, if strengthened will ensure sustainable security,” he added.
