Thirteen countries have qualified for the finals of the Orange African Nations Championship (CHAN) Rwanda 2016.

Countries which have joined hosts Rwanda in the finals include; Zambia, Angola, Morocco, Tunisia, Nigeria, Guinea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Zimbabwe, DR Congo, Lesotho, Uganda and Mali.

Morocco and Tunisia were the first to book a place following their qualification from the Northern Zone which saw holders Libya being eliminated in a round-robin qualification process.

In Zone West A, Mali qualified 3-2 on aggregate after playing to a 1-all draw against Mauritania in the second leg while Guinea qualified on away goal rule following their 3-1 loss to Senegal but ended the second leg tied on 3-3 aggregate.

In Zone West B, Nigeria played a goalless draw against Burkina Faso to qualify 2-0 on aggregate while Niger 3-1 on aggregate after playing a 1-all draw against Togo in Lome.

The remaining representative from Zone West B will be known after the Ivory Coast vs Ghana second leg tie due on October 30 in Abidjan.

In Zone Central Zone, Gabon joins DR Congo from the Central Zone. Congo and Cameroon will battle it out for the zone’s remaining slot on October 31, 2015 in Brazzaville. The first leg in Yaounde ended barren.

In Libreville, visiting Chad stunned hosts Gabon with a 1-0 win, but was not enough to prevent the Gabonese from qualification. A 2-0 win from the first leg in N’djamena was enough for ‘Les Pantheres’ who went through 2-1 on aggregate.

In Central-East Zone, Uganda and Ethiopia earned the slots after remarkable performances. Ethiopia whitewashed visitors Burundi 3-0 in a one sided match return leg clash played on Sunday in Addis Ababa while Uganda added misery on the Sudanese side whipping them 2-0 to qualify 4-0 on aggregate.

In Southern Zone, Lesotho held Zimbabwe to a 1-all draw but it was not enough to see them through thus earning Zimbabwe the qualification ticket 4-2 on aggregate.

Zambia booked their place in the finals courtesy of a 4-1 aggregate win over Mozambique. The Chipolopolo defeated the Mambas 3 – 0 in the first leg played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium a week ago thanks to goals by Winston Kalengo, Conlyde Luchanga and Spencer Sautu.

On Saturday, Angola were beaten 2-1 by South Africa in Luanda, but managed to go through on the back of a 2-0 win from the first leg last week in Johannesburg.

Angola’s Palancas Negras, losing finalists in the 2011 edition in Sudan booked their place on a 4-3 aggregate.

The Ivory Coast vs Ghana and Congo vs Cameroon ties have been delayed until next week because of presidential elections in Ivory Coast and a presidency-related referendum in Congo Brazzaville.

The draw for the finals tournament will be held in Kigali on November 18.

Rwanda will host the fourth edition of the African Nations Championship (Chan) from January 16 to February 7.
