110 Couples Legalize Their Union in Kicukiro

About 110 families living in Kicukiro Disitrict, Nyarugunga Sector have legalized their marriages following massive sensitization conducted by the District in collaboration with Women for Women International.

The function was attended by the Mayor of Kicukiro who was also the guest of honor, the District staff, a representative of Women for Women International in Rwanda and other staff and residents of Kicukiro District.

Legalizing one’s marriage is one of the strategies aimed at fighting and preventing domestic violence.

The newlywed couples were urged to advise other families to legalize their union and play a key role in the fight against violence.

During the event, Mayor of Kicukiro, Paul Jules Ndamage mentioned that cohabitation leads to severe consequences for the couples and their offspring especially when parents die it becomes difficult for their children to inherit their property.

“It is also difficult for cohabitating couples to reach sustainable development” he added.
