100 Drug Dealers Arrested

The Rwanda National Police yesterday arrested 100 people suspected to be drug dealers and several other engaged in unlawful activities.

The arrest followed a police cordon and search operations conducted in the districts of Kicukiro, Ruhango, Muhanga and Rusizi, where narcotics and illicit brew were also seized.

Among the suspects, 51 were arrested in Kicukiro, twenty from Ruhango, three from Muhanga and 37 in Rusizi district.

They are currently detained at Police Stations in their respective districts.

Supt. Albert Gakara, the Central Region Police Spokesperson attributed the successful operation to the good cooperation with the local population, who provided information.

He warned people who might still be planning to carry out criminal activities like drug trade and consumption that Police will not “blink until such law breakers are arrested to face justice.”

He called upon everyone, especially the youth to engage in developmental activities rather than landing themselves in trouble by resorting to criminal activities.

He appealed to the community to maintain the already good cooperation with police by sharing timely information on criminals to ensure crimes are prevented.

“Rwanda National Police is committed to ensure a crime free country for all people living in Rwanda,” he stated.
