Police in Dar es Salaam is holding 205 suspects of various offences following the crackdown against crimes at separate locations in the city.
The Dar es Salaam Special Zone Commissioner of Police (CP), Simon Sirro told reporters that the suspects were arrested during a one-week patrol that started last week.
He said some of the suspects allegedly found in possession of 300 litres of local liquor commonly known as ‘gongo’, marijuana 310 bundles and 505 pellets.
“The arrest was facilitated through tip-off from good citizens. The suspects were arrested at various areas in Temeke, Ilala and Kinondoni Municipalities,” said the Dar es Salaam police boss.
According to him, the suspects will be arraigned before the court of law after investigation completed. He added that the crackdowns are sustainable and urged citizens to cooperate with the police by reporting any kind of crime.
Meanwhile CP Sirro has strictly cautioned the city residents against mob justice. He said it is not right for the people to kill or to wound another. Let law enforcers do the job instead of making personal decisions.
“Mob justice is murder case also, anybody who will kill or injure a suspect will be charged before the court of law as a murderer,” he said.
Mr Sirro said to judge the suspects it is against human rights and urged the citizens to report the suspects to the police for further legal action and only the court will confirm if a suspect is a real criminal.
