Pretoria- Police in Pretoria have launched a manhunt for two suspects following a shoot-out with officers on Monday.
Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said the Gauteng flying squad had received information of a white VW Caddy that was being used in robberies around the Pretoria area on Monday.
“Information came after a man was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash after he drew money at the bank in Quagga Centre at about 11:00,” said Moloto.
“The suspicious vehicle was spotted by the Pretoria flying squad driving on Church Street towards Danville with three suspects inside.”
Police then signaled for the car to stop, but the suspects refused and continued driving. A high-speed chase and a shoot-out between the suspects and police ensued.
“One suspect was shot and fatally wounded and two others managed to flee on foot.”
Moloto said an unlicenced 9mm pistol was recovered. It was also discovered that the vehicle had been used in another armed robbery in Ga-rankuwa earlier in the same day.
The vehicle was discovered to have been hijacked in October 2015 in the Pretoria CBD.
Moloto appealed to the public to come forward with information.
“Members of the public should not approach the suspects. Rather they must contact their nearest police station.”
He said a case of possession of a hijacked vehicle and possession of an unlicensed firearm was opened at the Pretoria West police station.
