South Africa:’People scattered across highway’ after car crashes into cow

Durban – A car that appears to have knocked into a cow has left more than 10 people injured on the N11 just outside Volksrust on Saturday.

ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said 11 people sustained injuries when a vehicle overturned. He added that three crashed into the “initial scene”.

“At approximately 19:00 paramedics arrived on the scene where they found people scattered across the highway. It is understood that a vehicle collided with a cow on the N11 resulting in the driver losing control over the vehicle. The vehicle overturned several times and came to a standstill in the middle of the road. Three other vehicles crashed into the scene resulting in further injuries.”

Three children, aged between 3 and 7 years, were among the injured, Vermaak said.

All of the injured people were transported to Madadeni Hospital for further treatment.

Local authorities attended the incident.
