“The welfare of Ugandans is number one. We have many programmes that are aimed at wealth creation. We shall increase funding for efforts aimed at creating wealth for citzens,” the NRM presidential candidate told a press conference on Sunday.
He said besides increasing funding to Naads, youth, women and Saccos, government will increase the innovation fund, which currently has Shs170 billion to Shs500 billion.
He said the innovation fund is currently being used by scientists in producing new products.
Mr Museveni said the NRM has pacified the country and is now concentrating on prosperity and wealth creation. He promised a technical institute in each constituency and to increase the the number of nursing institututions.
Job creation
He said it is not exactly true that there is a shortage of jobs in Uganda.
“We have many vacancies for doctors, nurses and engineers but there are a few people with skills to fill those vacancies,” he said.
He said more efforts will be made to skill Ugandans and make them job creators rather than job seekers.
“Agriculture, ICT and industries have many jobs. We shall increase on job creation through wealth creation programmes, he said at a press conference which he held at Masindi State Lodge.
He cautioned leaders against dividing people using religious, cultural and other social differences.
The press conference was also attended by Defence minister Crispus Kiyonga, the State minister of Primary Education Dr Kamanda Bataringaya and Privatisation State minister Aston Kajara.
Mr Museveni attributed the raging conflicts in Congo, Central African Republic,Somalia and Burundi to opportunists who are thriving of the bloodshed of Africans.
Mr Museveni said the NRM government will continue to pacify the country and initiate projects that improve the welfare of the citizens.
