An Unknown person apparently forged letter indicating President Banda had resigned.
Malawi social media is awash with an official-looking letter with a presidential seal that purports President Banda had resigned from office on health grounds.
The letter is addressed to the Speaker of the National Assembly and claims that Ms Banda consulted her medical doctors leading to her “resignation.”
President Banda is demanding that the police to investigate the matter thoroughly.
“This is a serious matter, and I ought to say this without mincing words. The matter is in the hands of the police,” said an irked President Banda when addressing the press upon arrival from Equatorial Guinea where she was attending African-South America summit.
She added: “I must make this announcement that I have reserved $6,000, that I will give to a person who will mention the name of an individual who forged my signature.”
Meanwhile, Malawi’s politically volatile society is condemning the President for travelling out of the country amid a crisis where government workers have been protesting low wages.
