Kikwete names new polls director

Dar es Salaam. President Jakaya Kikwete has appointed Mr Kailima Ramadhani Kombwey the director of elections at the National Electoral Commission (NEC).

He replaces Mr Julius Mallaba, who moves to the High Court as a judge, according to a statement by State House Directorate of Communication.

Before his new appointment, Mr Kombwey was NEC’s director of administration. President Kikwete swore in Mr Kombwey yesterday.

The new development comes against a backdrop of technical glitches in the biometric voter registration that have been experienced countrywide.

President Kikwete has also appointed Richard Mziray a Court of Appeal Judge along with 13 new High Court judges.

The judges will be sworn-in at a later date.
