{A court was left in stitches after the magistrate teased a defilement suspect named after the late South African President Nelson Mandela. }
The magistrate, in a light touch, said the fallen hero must be unhappy for being in court over such a charge. Nelson Mandela, 25, allegedly defiled an 11-year-old girl in Kasarani between August 18 and 22.
Police said the girl was defiled by Mandela when her father, Evans Kaberia, was in Turkana.
In court, Mandela tried to explain himself, but was cut short by the court’s magistrate who said: “This was just your time to take a plea, the hearing date will be set, but surely, Nelson Mandela the legend, must be sad wherever he is now that his namesake is accused of defilement.”
Mandela denied the charge and was released on a Sh150,000 bail and surety bond of Sh1 million. The case will be heard on December 8.
