{With hundreds of Burundian refugees continuing to cross into Tanzania daily, member of a regular or an irregular armed group or anyone who has been actively undertaking military activities will be taken to Mwisa in Kagera Region.}
Speaking in a telephone interview with ‘Daily News’ Home Affairs Minister, Mr Charles Kitwanga said they will be taken there for security reasons.
“We have been receiving many refugees from Burundi and some of them are from the army, among the measures taken include sending them to the special camp (Mwisa) to prevent them from getting involved in any activities which might threaten security,” he said.
Mr Kitwanga said the only solution to reduce refugee influx in the country was the ongoing peace talk in Burundi to come into conclusion. More than 232,000 people have fled Burundi since violence erupted in April 2015 before the election.
Most have sought refuge in neighbouring countries, with 123,382 coming to Tanzania. Thousands moved into the Nyaragusu camp which, for the past 18 years, has been home to 65,000 Congolese refugees.
The arrival of new refugees has stretched resources at the camp, originally built for 50,000 people, leaving the existing community also struggling to access services.
