\u00ab M. F\u00e9licien Kabuga est d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 aujourd\u2019hui alors qu\u2019il \u00e9tait hospitalis\u00e9 \u00e0 La Haye \u00bb, indique le communiqu\u00e9, pr\u00e9cisant que le m\u00e9decin du Quartier p\u00e9nitentiaire des Nations Unies (UNDU) a imm\u00e9diatement \u00e9t\u00e9 inform\u00e9 et que les autorit\u00e9s n\u00e9erlandaises ont engag\u00e9 les proc\u00e9dures pr\u00e9vues par la loi.<\/p>\n

La pr\u00e9sidente de l\u2019IRMCT, la juge Graciela Gatti Santana, a ordonn\u00e9 une enqu\u00eate compl\u00e8te sur les circonstances de son d\u00e9c\u00e8s. Le juge Alphons Orie a \u00e9t\u00e9 charg\u00e9 de conduire cette enqu\u00eate.<\/p>\n

Kabuga \u00e9tait d\u00e9tenu \u00e0 l\u2019UNDU depuis octobre 2020, apr\u00e8s son arrestation en France le 16 mai 2020, o\u00f9 il vivait sous une fausse identit\u00e9 apr\u00e8s plusieurs ann\u00e9es de cavale.<\/p>\n

Il \u00e9tait accus\u00e9 de g\u00e9nocide, d\u2019entente en vue de commettre le g\u00e9nocide, d\u2019incitation au g\u00e9nocide ainsi que de crimes contre l\u2019humanit\u00e9, notamment pers\u00e9cution, extermination et meurtre commis durant le g\u00e9nocide contre les Tutsi.<\/p>\n

Son proc\u00e8s s\u2019\u00e9tait ouvert le 29 septembre 2022 devant l\u2019IRMCT, institution charg\u00e9e de poursuivre les fonctions r\u00e9siduelles du Tribunal p\u00e9nal international pour le Rwanda (TPIR).<\/p>\n

Toutefois, les proc\u00e9dures avaient \u00e9t\u00e9 suspendues en septembre 2023 apr\u00e8s que les juges eurent conclu que son \u00e9tat de sant\u00e9 ne lui permettait plus d\u2019\u00eatre jug\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Au moment de son d\u00e9c\u00e8s, Kabuga attendait une lib\u00e9ration provisoire vers un \u00c9tat pr\u00eat \u00e0 l\u2019accueillir.<\/p>\n
