\u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9poque, Davignon \u00e9tait un jeune diplomate stagiaire au minist\u00e8re belge des Affaires \u00e9trang\u00e8res \u00e0 L\u00e9opoldville (aujourd\u2019hui Kinshasa). Il est le seul des dix Belges vis\u00e9s par une plainte d\u00e9pos\u00e9e en 2011 par la famille de Lumumba \u00e0 \u00eatre encore en vie.<\/p>\n

Le parquet f\u00e9d\u00e9ral belge accuse Davignon d\u2019avoir particip\u00e9 \u00e0 la d\u00e9tention ill\u00e9gale, au transfert et au traitement d\u00e9gradant de Patrice Lumumba. Ce dernier a \u00e9t\u00e9 ex\u00e9cut\u00e9 par un peloton dans la province du Katanga en janvier 1961, dans un contexte de crise post-ind\u00e9pendance.<\/p>\n

Les accusations portent sur des crimes de guerre, notamment la privation d\u2019un proc\u00e8s \u00e9quitable et la d\u00e9gradation inflig\u00e9e au dirigeant congolais. L\u2019accusation d\u2019intention de meurtre a toutefois \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9cart\u00e9e par le parquet.<\/p>\n

Le tribunal de Bruxelles peut encore faire l\u2019objet d\u2019un appel dans les deux semaines. Si la d\u00e9cision est confirm\u00e9e, Davignon deviendrait le premier fonctionnaire belge poursuivi dans cette affaire depuis plus de soixante ans.<\/p>\n

Pour la famille de Patrice Lumumba, cette d\u00e9cision repr\u00e9sente un pas important vers la justice et la m\u00e9moire historique, le gouvernement belge ayant admis sa \u00ab\u202fresponsabilit\u00e9 morale\u202f\u00bb suite \u00e0 une enqu\u00eate parlementaire en 2001.<\/p>\n

Patrice Lumumba, figure majeure de l\u2019ind\u00e9pendance de la R\u00e9publique d\u00e9mocratique du Congo en 1960, avait \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9 Premier ministre apr\u00e8s le d\u00e9part des autorit\u00e9s coloniales belges. S\u2019\u00e9tant rapidement heurt\u00e9 aux int\u00e9r\u00eats belges et occidentaux, il fut destitu\u00e9 avant d\u2019\u00eatre assassin\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 35 ans.<\/p>\n

Le corps de Lumumba n\u2019a jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 retrouv\u00e9, \u00e9tant suppos\u00e9 avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 dissous dans de l\u2019acide.<\/p>\n
