Le gouvernement du Rwanda, repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 par le ministre de la Justice Emmanuel Ugirashebuja, estime que la d\u00e9cision britannique a viol\u00e9 les termes d\u2019un accord initialement sign\u00e9 en 2022 sous l\u2019ancienne secr\u00e9taire \u00e0 l\u2019Int\u00e9rieur Priti Patel, alors que Boris Johnson \u00e9tait Premier ministre.<\/p>\n

Selon cet accord, le Royaume-Uni avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 vers\u00e9 290 millions de livres au Rwanda, 50 millions suppl\u00e9mentaires \u00e9tant dus en avril 2025, somme au c\u0153ur du diff\u00e9rend juridique, selon les informations de GB News.<\/p>\n

Ce partenariat visait \u00e0 transf\u00e9rer \u00e0 Kigali les migrants en situation irr\u00e9guli\u00e8re arrivant au Royaume-Uni par de petites embarcations, afin qu\u2019ils soient h\u00e9berg\u00e9s et puissent demander l\u2019asile.<\/p>\n

Toutefois, le Premier ministre Keir Starmer a rapidement suspendu le programme apr\u00e8s son arriv\u00e9e au pouvoir en juillet 2024, provoquant l’indignation du Rwanda, qui d\u00e9nonce une d\u00e9cision h\u00e2tive et sans consultation.<\/p>\n

Interrog\u00e9 par le Daily Mail, le secr\u00e9taire fant\u00f4me \u00e0 l\u2019Int\u00e9rieur Chris Philp a critiqu\u00e9 la suspension, qualifiant la r\u00e9clamation rwandaise de \u00ab nouvelle cons\u00e9quence juridique catastrophique \u00bb de l\u2019abandon du programme.<\/p>\n

Le gouvernement britannique, de son c\u00f4t\u00e9, a d\u00e9fendu la suspension, arguant qu\u2019il s\u2019agissait selon lui d\u2019un gaspillage de fonds publics.<\/p>\n

Par ailleurs, les chiffres du Home Office rapportent qu\u2019en septembre 2025, plus de 36 000 migrants \u00e9taient encore h\u00e9berg\u00e9s dans des h\u00f4tels aux frais des contribuables, soit pr\u00e8s de 7 000 de plus depuis l\u2019arriv\u00e9e du Parti travailliste de Starmer au pouvoir.<\/p>\n

Selon toujours ‘GB News’, le Rwanda a d\u00e9sign\u00e9 pour l\u2019affaire Lord Verdirame KC (Essex Court Chambers) comme avocat, tandis que le Royaume-Uni est repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 par Ben Juratowitch. Le directeur du Home Office pour la migration et les fronti\u00e8res, Dan Hobbs, est \u00e9galement cit\u00e9 dans les documents juridiques.<\/p>\n
