Il accueille \u00e9galement une diversit\u00e9 impressionnante d\u2019esp\u00e8ces animales : impalas, antilopes, hy\u00e8nes, ainsi que plus de 500 esp\u00e8ces, dont de nombreux oiseaux rares, difficiles \u00e0 observer ailleurs.<\/p>\n<p>Chaque ann\u00e9e, le parc attire plus de 50 000 visiteurs. En 2024, leur nombre a augment\u00e9 de 3,83 %, passant de 54 141 en 2023 \u00e0 56 219.<\/p>\n<p>Au cours des trente derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, le Rwanda a investi massivement pour restaurer le parc, d\u00e9vast\u00e9 par le braconnage et ayant vu dispara\u00eetre certaines esp\u00e8ces. Les premiers lions ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9introduits, suivis des rhinoc\u00e9ros en 2021, puis de 70 rhinoc\u00e9ros blancs suppl\u00e9mentaires en mai 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Selon National Geographic, \u00ab plus la biodiversit\u00e9 du parc augmente, plus ses infrastructures d\u2019accueil se d\u00e9veloppent \u00bb. Ainsi, les visiteurs peuvent d\u00e9sormais profiter d\u2019un Karenge Bush Camp r\u00e9nov\u00e9 au sud, ou d\u2019une immersion au Wilderness Magashi Peninsula, lodge haut de gamme, au nord.<\/p>\n<p>Aujourd\u2019hui, le parc abrite plus de 11 300 animaux, dont 60 lions, 142 \u00e9l\u00e9phants, 4 000 buffles, 80 \u00e0 100 l\u00e9opards, 145 rhinoc\u00e9ros et 115 girafes. Avec pr\u00e8s de 500 esp\u00e8ces d\u2019oiseaux, l\u2019Akagera domine le Rwanda en termes de vari\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019oiseaux, devant Nyungwe et les parcs de Gishwati et des Volcans, et compte \u00e9galement 179 esp\u00e8ces de papillons.<\/p>\n<p>Le parc compte aussi de nombreux animaux embl\u00e9matiques, notamment 2\u202f000 impalas, 1\u202f500 antilopes, 120 \u00e0 150 hy\u00e8nes, 1\u202f500 \u00e0 1\u202f800 hippopotames, ainsi que plus de 1\u202f000 cobes des roseaux et phacoch\u00e8res.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019Akagera se distingue par son programme de r\u00e9introduction d\u2019esp\u00e8ces provenant de diff\u00e9rents pays\u202f: neuf lions ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9introduits en 2015, des rhinoc\u00e9ros noirs transf\u00e9r\u00e9s depuis l\u2019Europe et l\u2019Afrique du Sud en 2017 et 2018, trente rhinoc\u00e9ros suppl\u00e9mentaires en 2021, et soixante-dix rhinoc\u00e9ros blancs en 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Chaque ann\u00e9e, plus de 2\u202f000 \u00e9l\u00e8ves et 3\u202f000 habitants des villages voisins participent \u00e0 ses programmes d\u2019\u00e9ducation \u00e0 l\u2019environnement.
