Le magistrat a justifi\u00e9 son verdict en rappelant que les fun\u00e9railles de l’ancien pr\u00e9sident sont encadr\u00e9es par la l\u00e9gislation zambienne, laquelle confie \u00e0 l\u2019\u00c9tat l\u2019organisation et la direction de la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie. <\/p>\n

En cons\u00e9quence, la volont\u00e9 de la famille du d\u00e9funt ne peut pas pr\u00e9valoir sur celle du gouvernement de l\u2019inhumer dans le cimeti\u00e8re officiel r\u00e9serv\u00e9 aux anciens chefs d\u2019\u00c9tat.<\/p>\n

Cette d\u00e9cision intervient apr\u00e8s un d\u00e9saccord entre la famille de Lungu et les autorit\u00e9s zambiennes. Le 15 juin, les deux parties s\u2019\u00e9taient pourtant entendues sur un enterrement \u00e0 Lusaka sous la responsabilit\u00e9 de l\u2019\u00c9tat. <\/p>\n

Ceci-dit, la famille \u00e9tait revenue sur cet accord, craignant selon elle, que le gouvernement n\u2019honore pas ses engagements. Elle avait \u00e9galement mis en avant une demande personnelle de l\u2019ancien pr\u00e9sident, qui aurait souhait\u00e9 que l\u2019actuel chef de l\u2019\u00c9tat, Hakainde Hichilema, n\u2019assiste pas \u00e0 ses fun\u00e9railles.<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s sa d\u00e9faite face \u00e0 Hakainde Hichilema en 2021, Lungu avait quitt\u00e9 la pr\u00e9sidence et annonc\u00e9 son retrait de la vie politique. Il est toutefois revenu en 2023, annon\u00e7ant sa candidature pour la pr\u00e9sidentielle de 2026 en tant qu\u2019opposant.<\/p>\n

Depuis, des tensions avec le gouvernement et des poursuites contre certains membres de sa famille pour d\u00e9tournement de fonds publics ont conduit \u00e0 un d\u00e9saccord sur son lieu d\u2019inhumation.<\/p>\n
