La d\u00e9claration a \u00e9t\u00e9 faite le 13 juillet 2025 sur le r\u00e9seau social X : \u00ab Je suis candidat \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9lection pr\u00e9sidentielle du 12 octobre 2025 \u00bb. \u00ab Soyez assur\u00e9s que ma d\u00e9termination \u00e0 vous servir est \u00e0 la mesure de l\u2019acuit\u00e9 des d\u00e9fis auxquels nous sommes confront\u00e9s. Ensemble, il n\u2019est pas de d\u00e9fis que nous ne puissions surmonter \u00bb, a-t-il affirm\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Au pouvoir depuis 1982, Paul Biya a succ\u00e9d\u00e9 \u00e0 Ahmadou Ahidjo, qui avait quitt\u00e9 la pr\u00e9sidence cette m\u00eame ann\u00e9e. S\u2019il est r\u00e9\u00e9lu, Biya pourrait demeurer \u00e0 la t\u00eate du pays jusqu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 100 ans, ce qui suscite l\u2019inqui\u00e9tude de nombreux Camerounais.<\/p>\n

Cette annonce a raviv\u00e9 les d\u00e9bats concernant la sant\u00e9 de Paul Biya. En effet, le pr\u00e9sident appara\u00eet tr\u00e8s rarement en public et d\u00e9l\u00e8gue fr\u00e9quemment une grande partie de ses responsabilit\u00e9s au secr\u00e9taire g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de la pr\u00e9sidence. En octobre 2024, son retour au Cameroun apr\u00e8s 42 jours pass\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger avait provoqu\u00e9 de nombreuses questions sur son \u00e9tat de sant\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Le gouvernement camerounais a toujours ni\u00e9 que le pr\u00e9sident souffre de probl\u00e8mes de sant\u00e9 et a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de cesser toute communication \u00e0 ce sujet, le qualifiant de question relevant de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 nationale.<\/p>\n

En 2008, Paul Biya a fait modifier la Constitution camerounaise en supprimant la limite du nombre de mandats pr\u00e9sidentiels, lui ouvrant ainsi la possibilit\u00e9 de se pr\u00e9senter ind\u00e9finiment.<\/p>\n

Lors de la derni\u00e8re \u00e9lection en 2018, il avait remport\u00e9 la victoire avec 71,28 % des voix. Toutefois, ses opposants avaient d\u00e9nonc\u00e9 de graves irr\u00e9gularit\u00e9s et une fraude massive durant le scrutin.<\/p>\n
