Le Pr\u00e9sident Kagame effectue une visite de deux jours en Alg\u00e9rie, destin\u00e9e \u00e0 renforcer les relations bilat\u00e9rales entre les deux pays \u00e0 plusieurs niveaux.<\/p>\n

Cette guerre d\u2019ind\u00e9pendance, qui a d\u00e9but\u00e9 en novembre 1954 pour s\u2019achever en juillet 1962, a mis fin \u00e0 plus d\u2019un si\u00e8cle de colonisation fran\u00e7aise, \u00e9tablie depuis 1830.<\/p>\n

La r\u00e9volte a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9clench\u00e9e par le Front de Lib\u00e9ration Nationale (FLN), qui a lanc\u00e9 une s\u00e9rie d\u2019attaques connues sous le nom de \u00ab Toussaint Rouge \u00bb.<\/p>\n

Face \u00e0 cette insurrection, la France d\u00e9ploya des milliers de soldats et engagea une r\u00e9pression brutale, commettant des actes de torture, des exactions et des assassinats, notamment lors de la bataille d\u00e9cisive pour la capitale Alger, entre 1956 et 1957.<\/p>\n

Le conflit prit fin avec la signature des accords de cessez-le-feu le 1er juillet 1962. Ce m\u00eame jour, un r\u00e9f\u00e9rendum permit aux Alg\u00e9riens d\u2019exprimer leur volont\u00e9 d\u2019ind\u00e9pendance, qui fut officiellement proclam\u00e9e quatre jours plus tard, le 5 juillet 1962.<\/p>\n

Le gouvernement alg\u00e9rien \u00e9value \u00e0 plus d\u2019un million et demi le nombre de personnes ayant perdu la vie au cours de ce conflit.<\/p>\n
