{Belgium Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister Didier Reynders has learned with concern the hospitalization of a Brundian politician Pierre Claver Mbonimpa who is an a provisional custody since May 15th.}
Given the deterioration in the health of Mbonimpa, the Minister asked the Burundian authorities to guarantee him adequate medical treatment.
Reynders stresses the need to ensure Mbonimpa treatment of his criminal record in accordance with procedures of Burundian law and international conventions to which Burundi is a party.
Minister Reynders is also concerned about the possible exclusion of several potential candidates for the 2015 elections as a result of legal proceedings against them.
Didier Reynders reiterates the commitment of Belgium to freedom of the press, especially in the pre-election context.
