Speaking to journalists at the Flagstaff House on Friday, Minister of Information and Media Relations Mahama Ayariga asked Parliament not to waste time passing the Bill into law. <\/p>\n
Mr. Ayariga said: \u201cThe President [John Mahama] places premium on the expeditious passage of the bill\u201d as he is determined to run an \u201copen government\u201d he promised during the electioneering campaign.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe will give his assent to it immediately the Bill is passed into law by Parliament\u2026We would want to urge Parliament to give priority to this piece of legislation.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Right to Information Bill enables every person in Ghana to access information from the Government. It promotes transparency and accountability in public offices. <\/p>\n
This allows every person in Ghana to be more proactive about the Government\u2019s policies and conduct of civil servants as well as strengthening democracy by increasing citizen participation through empowerment.<\/p>\n
