\u201cWe are going to create 25 points of transparency, 50 points of waste gathering and 600 motor-cycles will be distributed to help in the cleaning process\u201d Luanda\u2019s Deputy Governor Adriano Mendes de Carvalho was quoted as saying.<\/p>\n
Located on Angola’s coast with the Atlantic Ocean to its west, Luanda is the country’s largest port and the 22nd filthiest cities in the world.<\/p>\n
Luanda clean-up project will cost $25.6 million while needed materials will be at $ 18.7 million.<\/p>\n
Apart from improving public health and environment, the two programs will also generate employment to local citizens.<\/p>\n
Studies from several agencies, including Unicef and Oxfam, suggest that a large portion of the population in Luanda do not have access to clean water.<\/p>\n
Much of this portion of the population lives in settlements called musseques built on hardened waste.<\/p>\n
