{"id":7914,"date":"2013-05-20T04:45:26","date_gmt":"2013-05-20T04:45:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/eastern-africa-standby-force-field-training\/"},"modified":"2013-05-22T09:26:13","modified_gmt":"2013-05-22T09:26:13","slug":"eastern-africa-standby-force-field-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/eastern-africa-standby-force-field-training\/","title":{"rendered":"Eastern Africa Standby Force-Field Training Kicks-off"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{{The Eastern Africa Standby Force-Field Training Exercise (EASF-FTX) codenamed \u201cMashariki Salaam 2013, officially kicked off on Sunday in Jinja, Uganda.}}<\/p>\n<p>The Exercise brings together 1250 military, police and civilian troops from ten Eastern Africa Standby Force member states.<\/p>\n<p>2016 Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) troops are taking part in the 18-day intensive Exercise.<\/p>\n<p>The troops are from Rwanda, Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan and the host, Uganda.<\/p>\n<p>The troops will be joining a regional multidimensional force to establish an Eastern Africa Standby Force which will be fully operational in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Uganda\u2019s Minister of Defence, Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, who flagged-off the Exercise said: \u201cWithout security no development and dignity; we can say, without fear, that EASF has made a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Kiyonga added that the region still faces security and stability challenges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKenya, Djibouti, Uganda and Burundi are in Somalia because we are same people,\u201d he said, calling on states to cooperate for common cause.<\/p>\n<p>The Director of EASF, Maj. Gen Cyrille Ndayirukiye said the Standby Force is committed to achieving its mandate like maintaining peace and security by preparing regional troops for peacekeeping missions.<\/p>\n<p>Uganda\u2019s Chief Defence Staff, Gen.
